Best Drink Dispensers for Parties
We earn from qualifying Amazon purchases. We haven't tested these products ourselves. We chose them from specs and what a party needs. How we make money.
If you have ever spent a party pouring lemonade for other people you know why drink dispensers exist. Put the drinks on a side table with a tap and some cups. Guests help themselves. You get to talk to your friends.
The question is which kind. Glass looks lovely and shows off the drink. Plastic is light and does not break. Insulated jugs hold ice for hours outdoors. And if you serve coffee or cocoa you need something else again.
The most common complaint about cheap dispensers is a dripping tap. So that is what we looked at hardest.

How we chose
We haven’t tested these dispensers ourselves. We picked them from maker specs and from patterns in owner feedback. A tap that drips or leaks was the main reason to leave a dispenser out. We also looked at size and how easy each one is to clean. We left out novelty shapes that are hard to wash. Our page on how we choose products has the full method.
Glass or plastic or insulated
Glass is the prettiest. Fruit and herbs look great through it. It does not stain or hold smells. But it is heavy when full and it breaks. Keep it on a sturdy table indoors.
Plastic is light and hard to break. It is the better choice near a pool or with lots of children. It can scratch and cloud with age.
Insulated jugs are about keeping drinks cold for hours outside. Nobody buys them for their looks. On a hot day they are the most useful of the lot.
How much to make
A rough rule is two drinks per guest in the first hour. Then one drink per guest each hour after that. A gallon holds about sixteen 8 ounce cups. So 25 guests at a three hour party drink roughly 100 cups. That is about six gallons across all your drinks.
Have a second batch made and chilled in the fridge. Refill before the dispenser runs dry so the tap never sputters.
Stop the drips
- Check the tap seal before the party. Fill the dispenser with water and leave it on a towel for an hour.
- Do not overfill. Leave an inch or two at the top.
- Put the dispenser on a raised stand or the table edge so cups fit under the tap.
- Set a tray or a folded towel under the tap. Every dispenser drips a little when guests pour.
Keep it clean
Wash the dispenser and the tap before and after the party. Take the tap apart if it comes apart. Sugar and fruit pulp hide in there. Use ice made from clean water. Keep a scoop in the ice bucket so hands stay out of it. FoodSafety.gov lists cleaning as the first of its four steps for safe food.
FAQ
What size drink dispenser do I need for a party?
For 20 to 30 guests one 2 to 3 gallon dispenser per drink is a good start. Make a backup batch for refills. For bigger parties use two dispensers or add an insulated jug.
Can you put hot drinks in a glass dispenser?
Most glass dispensers are not made for hot liquids. Hot drinks can crack the glass and loosen the tap seal. Use an insulated airpot for coffee and tea and cocoa.
How do I keep drinks cold without watering them down?
Use a dispenser with an ice core. Or chill the drinks fully before they go in. Frozen fruit and ice cubes made from the same drink also help.
Do drink dispensers leak?
Cheap ones often do. Test it at home with water first. Hand tighten the tap and check the rubber washer sits flat.
