How we choose products
We haven’t tested the products in our guides in our own kitchen. So here is exactly how a product ends up in a Party Meals guide.
We start with the party
Every guide begins with what a host has to get right. We take food safety advice from agencies like USDA FSIS. Hot food stays at 140°F or warmer. Cold food stays at 40°F or colder. That sets the bar a product has to clear. A warmer that can’t hold food hot for the length of a party stays out.
We read the specs
Next we read the maker’s listing and the manual when we can find it. We look at capacity and size and what the thing is made of. We look at how it keeps food hot or cold and how it cleans up after. A chafing dish that won’t fit your table is no help on the day.
We read what owners say
Then we read owner feedback and the tips hosts and home cooks share in their own communities. We look for problems that come up again and again. Lids that don’t fit. Trays that warp. Handles that get too hot to touch. One unhappy review does not sink a product. A pattern does.
We check every link
Each shop link goes to a real product page on Amazon. Before a product goes in we check that the page shows the product we named. Photos on the site show the type of gear and come from openly licensed sources with credit.
What we leave out
We skip products with thin listings that give no size or capacity. We skip anything we can’t match to a real product page. Nobody pays for a place in a guide and we don’t accept free products.
How the money works
Some links are affiliate links. If you buy through one we may earn a small commission. It never decides what goes into a guide. Our affiliate disclosure has the details.
Keeping guides current
The date at the top of each guide shows when it was last updated. Each guide ends with the sources it used. Spotted something out of date? Tell us and we’ll fix it.
